January 25th – A horrid day. A stomach bug, too much work to do, bad weather and a migraine that kept coming back when I thought it’d finished.

The daylight was headache grey and the night wet and very dark. I spun out early evening, trying to clear my head, to no avail, but I did feel a bit better for the exercise.

This month seems to have been so long, and so very, very wet; I despair of ever seeing the town light, aired and dry again. I rode the high street, Hussey Estate and looped around Clayhanger. I barely saw a soul.

Ravens Court is particularly grim these days. So many promises, and so much talk, yet it still stands, rotting. I love Brownhills with all my heart – I really do. But today, my lack of wellbeing, the weather and the endless dark made it hateful, tense and forlorn.

December 30th – Not many folk realise but we now, for the first time in decades, have a paramedic base in Brownhills.

Just at the side of the Activity Centre – the former Central Boy’s School – the railings have been removed, and an office fitted out. A paramedic response vehicle waits here, silently anticipating the call.

This evening, there was no need to be out, and I hope they had a quiet Christmas. I hope they have a quiet 2014, too; but it’s nice knowing they’re there, ready for the call.

Happy new year to those. Waiting. Just in case.

March 2nd – The old Central Boys School at Brownhills, just at the central island, known to my generation as ‘The Annexe’ is no longer a school and is now called Brownhills Activity Centre – a sort of community centre on steroids. There are all kinds of clubs and classes going on here, from adult education, to a motorcycle club and youth groups. Even at 6:15pm on a Friday, the place is buzzing. It wasn’t until I stopped to take these pictures that I realised how gorgeous the building actually is, and how wonderful it looks at night. Never really noticed before.
