June 23rd – Been meaning to point this out for a while. On the Chester Road at Stonnall, there’s a set of abandoned steel gates to the old lower quarry that operated here for a while, a few decades ago. Both the gates, and the land they provide access to have been overgrown for years – but recently, someone has cleared the area of scrub, and the tyre tracks of heavy machinery can be seen.

Can’t find a planning application anywhere, and I’m interested to see what becomes of this…

April 8th – I took the canal for the commute today, joining it in the centre of Walsall. Haven’t done that for a while, and it wasn’t the best decision I’ve ever made, to be honest. It was wet and heavy going.

Passing Bentley Bridge, it gave me chance to look at the land clearance that had gone on here of late; a whole line of trees and scrub have gone from the roadside of Bentley Mill Way. I assume this is to do with upcoming road improvements here.

I still love that you can see the two spires of Wednesbury from here. But such a blasted, scarred landscape between.

September 21st – catching up on the news feeds on the train on the way home, I picked up an interesting fixmystreet report about a field in Engine Lane, Brownhills being cleared of scrub. Since I had to pop into Tesco anyway, I thought I’d swing by and take a look. I was quite surprised to sees the field had been efficiently cleared and all the vegetation was now in a pile. There’s a blog article speculating on the possible reasons for this on my main blog.
