January 28th – A wet, dripping Lichfield was beautiful in the late afternoon and dusk, though. Surprisingly cold but glistening, I always love this city in the rain.
It’ll be nice to see some leaves on the trees of Beacon Street again, though. Hurry up, spring!
Novemebr 6th – Lichfield on a dark, damp and nearly deserted Sunday evening was a treat. Armed with a tripod and some time to kill, experimentation was undertaken. I managed to get the hard light I wanted, and loved the effect long exposeure have on passing strangers, rendering them ghosts.
There are few better urban spots for night photography than Lichfield.
October 17th – I wasn’t feeling much better today, and resolved to get out to try and lift the black dog from my back. And as usual, it worked.
The day was as dull as autumn makes them; overcast and threatening, but my journey to Lichfield was illuminated by the remarkable colours on display. From my favourite horse chestnut tree at Home Farm to the line of maples at Darwin Park, it all looked beautiful.
Sometimes all you need is fresh air, bustle and the beauty of nature just doing her thing.
March 9th – I passed through Lichfield on a bright, warm, sunny Sunday afternoon, and the place was bustling. People were queueing for ice creams, browsing in the shops and just taking the air. It was an absolute joy to be there.
Interestingly, there were a huge number of bikes around the city – people really seem to be increasingly turning to bicycles these days for leisure trips at least.
A fine thing to see that lifted my spirits.
October 4th – I was in Lichfield for a work meeting, then in the afternoon, stopped awhile to do some shopping. What started out dry but dull ended up rather wet – but the sun soon came out again. It was a day of contrasts, really – from shoppers scurrying from the downpour, to the earlier peace of Festival Gardens and the pretty little oriental bridge. Also in the gardens, conkers lay thick on the ground, the sign of this year’s excellent harvest. In the City centre, a hilarious animatronic puppet performed for shoppers, controlled by radio remote.
But best of all, I loved the way the raindrops on those oranges made them look fresh and appetising.
June 5th – While wandering through Lichfield on a grey afternoon, I spotted these lovely cows gracing the shopfront of the former Savers store in Dam Street. I guess that, judging by the subject and various hooks on the frontage, that this was one a butcher. Nice that the cows were retained.
