March 12th – I revised some old haunts tonight to try out the new camera on some familiar night shots. I’m astounded with the improvement in image quality of the TZ70 over the TZ60; the shots are far sharper and less noisy than I’m used to getting. Even the flats on the Watermead by Coopers Bridge are well defined and sharp.
They really let the unexpected beauty of Brownhills at night shine through.
March 23rd – whilst pottering through Wednesfield on my way back from Telford, I noticed this pedestrian bridge near the centre of town. I think it’s a close relation to the one in Brownhills, erected a couple of years ago at the bottom of Pier Street. Although a different shape, and clearly adapted for specific circumstances, it’s clearly by the same designer with similar stylistic quirks. Wonder if there are any more of them? I like these bridges, although the inward-leaning rail is disconcerting, they have beautifully soft ramps for wheeled access, and look rather elegant.
May 21st – Crossing the M6 Toll footbridge from Poole Crescent, Brownhills West onto Chasewater is always an odd sensory experience. The cage-like structure is disconcerting and the traffic noise from below, coupled with the visual flicker caused by light through the mesh in one’s peripheral vision disorientates. I always think that if there’s some kind of urban hell out there, it would be contstructed like this. Horrible.
