November 4th – My last day in Redditch for a while, and after quite a rainy week the River Arrow was filling up nicely. Storm drains were topping up the flow, and kingfishers (and fisherman, oddly enough) had returned. The river hasn’t recovered yet, and is still but a shadow of it’s former self; but it seems to be recovering. I lover the way the vegetation that was at the water-margin is now submerged.

September 20th – I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that the River Arrow through Redditch was running very low. It seems to have picked up with recent rains; looking at the submerged vegetation on either side, it’s risen a couple of inches in recent days. Little did I realise that later that day, it was to get a further boost, and I’d be cycling homewards in a rainstorm. Such is life.

May 5th – first wild garlic nasal attack of the season. I love the scent of this woodland plant. Preferring wet, shady areas, this white-flowered relative of the more familiar cultivated variety grows in profusion on the banks of the River Arrow in Redditch. Stopping to investigate this delicious aroma, I came upon a veritable carpet of white blooms. A delightful assault on the senses.
