July 30th – We seem to be in a period of really dramatic sunsets again.
The same one, 30 minutes apart. So much beauty out there in the everyday if you keep an eye out for it.

June 24 – It was, at least, a stunning sunset, and as I travelled through Walsall Wood at dusk, I couldn’t resist a familiar skyline.
Some days, you just need the usual things in life and the reassurance of familiar surroundings.
May 29th – A day of remarkable colour and beauty. I set off in the early afternoon for a ride not really sure where I was going, but headed to Middleton Hall for fuel in the form of tea and cake before heading southeast into the wind, over to Ridge Lane via Kingsbury and on to Mancetter, a place I haven’t been for years. From there, out to Sheepy Magna, then Orton on the Hill, up to Twycross and then down Salt Street to No Mans Heath. Returning in a glorious golden hour via Clifton, Harlaston and Whittington, the sunset over the railway at Hademore was remarkable.
It was a long ride but I felt power in my legs and really, really enjoyed it.
May 28th – I returned from Burntwood via Chasewater at sunset.
It was peaceful, and remarkably, I had the dam to myself. The dam, and the magic.
It’s been ages since I caught a decent Chasewater sunset. Pleased with this.

May 8th – There can be few finer sights at the end of a long ride than the sunset over Home Farm to Ogley Hay, punctuated by the spire of St. James in the middle.
What a fantastic sky.
March 13th – Up onto the Chase via Pye Green over Brockton Field and down into Sherbrooke Valley: over to Milford, then onto the Shugborough Estate and the canal, returning via Rugeley and Longdon.
A remarkable, beautiful, mist shrouded sunset – and Sherbrrok Valley was as wide open, deserted and cinematic as ever.
I really missed this.

March 7th – I don’t often ride through The Butts in Walsall, although it’s a lovely place. The tightly packed streets of traditional terraces are lined with parked cars, and any ride through this fascinating place is marred by conflict with other traffic, which is a great shame as I miss scenes like this.
Stopping to wait for my companion caught up further back, I looked up Borneo Street to see a perspective sunset, perfectly replete with TV aerials, chimneys and the ghostly white LED street lights.
I could really love this place, were it not such a challenge to cycle around.
March 1st – Aargh, that frustration – a great sunset and nowhere to get a good shot of it. Returning home tired and aching, dusk found me passing through Shelfield. Sadly, Shelfield is pretty flat and has no great viewpoints, sadly, and these images don’t really do it justice.
I bet it was a good one at Chasewater or up on the Beacon…
February 1st – Past 5pm, still some light skulking in the sky, hiding from the oncoming night.
Darlaston and my beloved Black Country – in how many ways do I love thee?
December 28th – Over to Lichfield to pick up some tickets. A beautiful sunset I wasn’t in a great place to catch – but from the corner of Market Lane in Wall it looked wonderful through the trees.
A better day. Perhaps things are improving at last. But still that abrasive, grinding wind.
