July 18th – By the time I was riding home through the backlanes between Shenstone and Stonnall, my energy had gone, I was hot, tired and in pain. It was hard going, but the evening views and atmosphere made it difficult to be upset.

A truly gorgeous evening, of the kind we don’t get in the UK much. Such heat, but so glorious; and a storm is coming in.

Don’t moan about the heat too much, it’ll be cold and wet again soon enough…

February 26th – Not far away from the crutch, but hopefully not connected with it, I spotted this on a Brownhills canal bank. Possibly caused by the hedge clipping I posted about yesterday, I hope the owner continued to feel deflated. Some cyclists make me ashamed to be on two wheels – and those who leave litter fit into that category. Drink bottles, energy bar wrappers and detritus like this shame us all – and the inner tube is a particular hazard to waterfowl who get tangled in them. Apart from anything else, it’s a waste. Or at least it would be, but it’s my size, so I took it home, repaired it and popped it in the spares box.

I have a simple message for those cyclists who litter: You brought it with you, take it the hell back. You disgust me.

August 3rd – Pushing my bike across the Bridge pedestrianised zone in Walsall, at about 5pm on a Wednesday. A cycle cop is dawdling here, clearly riding their bicycle in a pedestrian zone. How ca we seriously expect the police to enforce the cycle prohibition here if they ignore it themselves? Yobs cycling down Park Street is a serious problem, which, as a responsible cyclist, I expect them to deal with.

This really annoys me.  I expect them to set an example. I’m ready for the rash of excuses you normally get for complaining about such things… considering I was once threatened with a fixed penalty ticket for sitting astride my bike whilst using a cashpoint in Cannock, bring it on.

July 12th – Red light jumpers really annoy me, whatever type of roaduser they are. On the same morning commute, two classic examples, 15 minutes apart. The first turns left toward Lichfield at the Shire Oak Junction in a car. The second, a cyclist, drifts off the pavement and into lane at the Church Street junction in Lichfield, only to drift back again and cruise through the junction illegally. Both are idiots, and there’s no need for it.
