September 10th – Up in Pleck, Walsall I spited this brisk, urbane puss who was stalking ratty in the rubbish on the opposite canal bank by Scarborough Road Bridge. Nervous at first, I thought he was going to run away, but he found his courage and faced me while I caught him on camera.

This large black and white puss may be rooting through the rubbish but he was neat an tidy and very lithe.

Clearly one has to look one’s best, even in the most grim conditions…

September 25th – I spotted this handsome cat loafing in a field of stubble at Hademore,near Whittington. He was some way away, and the camera brought him nearer. His antics were fascinating; one moment he was hunting, on point, then having a scratch, then dozing.

I watched him for ages – a lovely cat clearly enjoying his territory. `I think he was every bit a star and someone must love this puss very much.

September 27th – Spotted as I was passing in Flats Lane, Weeford, a young retriever and his comforter – which appears to be a mop head.

What a charmer. Could have taken him home for those sad, brown eyes alone.
