#365daysofbiking Nice ‘tache!

September 18th – Scarborough Road in Walsall is still a veritable catropolis, and I see plenty of fine pusses there. Sadly I can’t often photograph them without invading the privacy of the householders in whose gardens or upon whose window cills these fine felines hang out.

This proud puss – with more than a little of the Adolf-cat about him, have to say – was sat in a gateway watching me ride past.

He obliged me by posing for a picture. Clearly a lovely cat – someone loves this one very much.

June 10th – One of the best things about a real country fair is the sheer entertainment value and variety of dogs to be seen there. From feisty little terriers to the huge, rug-like Pyrenean they were all charming, whether part of a display, plodding behind an owner, partaking of a nap or just waiting patiently for a treat.

A particularly strange moment came when the local drag hunt released, apropos of nothing much, their pack of hounds into the crowd. An odd thing, for sure.

I could have happily adopted any of these fine dogs.

February 19th – There were other stars, too though. The cats are waking up in the warm weather, and I saw several, including the two canalside kitties at Brierley Hill and the great dog and cat partnership at Bumble Hole. That pair’s facial expressions were absolutely priceless. I think they are big mates, but the cat clearly tries to hide it.

April 14th – Cat season is again upon us. As the weather warms and the days lengthen, the formerly hitherto invisible cat population emerge into the light, loafing, strolling and watching the world go by.

This beautiful animal was watching me in Scarborough Road, Walsall, in the morning, in a street surveyed by six or seven feline overseers.

I love to see them. A real sign of summer on the way.

September 27th – On the canal near Newtown, Brownhills, waterside pets. That wonderful dog… possibly a husky, whom I’m told is female, lying imperiously in the weak sun. Such a gorgeous, lupine creature. Her owners must be very proud.

Not far away, on an abandoned fishing peg, possibly the world’s smuggest cat. What a splendid fellow.

I can’t help wondering if the cat teases the dog…
